E74 - Scott Servais Saves Cal Raleigh With Ejection After Chris Guccione K; Raleigh Hits Walk-Off
I love this ejection mechanic. A bunch of people go after him just because he has a hobby (the gym). This relaxed mechanic, almost looking like a fade away, I feel to be less likely to be interpreted as an ejection out of anger. Instead, it comes across as an ejection made by reason, maybe even a bit begrudgingly
Jimenez missed so many calls on 6/28/2024. It was embarrassing. He successfully replaced Angel Hernandez this season. The MLB needs to send him back to the minors.
It seems catchers are moving their glove more than in the past.
Does the umpire have to notify the defensive team that he missed the plate?
Guy is a showpony. Apple Siri is better at baseball.
At 1:45 “Congratulations and thank you for celebrating Pride Night?” Are you kidding me? What the heck that has anything to do with baseball? Bye bye CloseCallSports. UNSUSCRIBED
Randy Wolf's brother is a huge fan of Steroids he also wanted take them as well to defend himself against tough players & coaches
Do the multiple colors of the logo mean anything?
Imagine being so jacked, he's not even wearing a chest protector back there. What an animal. Also, what low profile chest protector is he actually wearing?
Home plate umpire awarded the batter first base initially, then when asked by Orioles manager to consult with the crew, he did so and then waived him back. Is that the proper protocol or once the call was made by Estabrook do the Orioles have to issue a formal challenge to have the call overturned?
Anyone else notice the lack of "in your face" arguing here. i guess having arms the size of tree trunks has merit. haha!!
If I were an MLB manager, I would simply be too ashamed to have that much misplaced anger or be so publicly wrong all the time.
Eh, this is an ok toss. Call it a professional ejection: this manager literally takes one for the team by getting ejected instead of his player.
we're on pace for about 200 ejections this season
I always thought of myself as a pretty athletic guy, but when I see Jim Wolf, I always think that maybe I don't spend enough time in the gym. I mean this guy is 54 yo, it's amazing how he keeps himself in perfect shape!
I do not care anymore about managers and players arguing balls and strikes. Everyone knows, you are going to be tossed.
I like how he just non chalant about listening, not taking it personal, just like a Dad laying down the facts.
even game? so if u miss 20 calls on each side? even game, move on!
Ten each, not twenty. Fourteen of those misses were within an inch of being correct. While it was not the most accurate zone ever, it was a fair zone. What's more, neither team's pitching staff could hit the broadside of a barn. 128 balls and only 46 strikes? Yuck.
There it is again, two strikes on them and just standing there with the bat on their shoulders. Man alive...
yup, its painful. Ive watched so many Jays strikeout thinking they know the zone better then ump or they just cant come to conclusion to not let the ump decide the 3rd strike.
This is the result when you can’t hit MLB pitching.
They were taking because the pitching was so bad. This game featured 128 balls thrown compared to 46 strikes.
@@teebob21 Roberto Clemente hit pitches out of the strike zone into gaps on his way to Cooperstown. Wannabes play umpire and walk back to the dugout
Weak ejection as Q was headed back to the dugout!!
Ha!
Different strategy....great stuff!
I'm still curious if there's some analysis done on manager ejection impact on team performance. Or maybe the additional attention impacting business revenue? Most of these ejections just seem stupid to me, so I'm trying to figure out why the managers continue.
Wolf has always seemed like one of the better, more friendly umps to me. Even that ejection was pretty low key and not particularly demonstrative. That said, he did get fooled by the framing. If the Astros are still mad about that 6 innings later... well it is what it is. Espada was possibly protecting his player from getting tossed, and the post-ejection performance was perhaps his way of getting workout tips from Mr. Wolf.
It’s not the job of a MLB umpire to be friendly. The players are coaches are not their friends. Wolf was not fooled by so called framing which is actually not framing a pitch at all
@@rayray4192 "It’s not the job of a MLB umpire to be friendly." It's not in the job description, but there's nothing stopping an ump from being both friendly and professional. And from what I remember when seeing him live, the man was both. But you might be right about the framing. He could've been fooled by the trajectory. Regardless, he did miss the call.
“Friendly” means he keeps his demeanor calm. He remains courteous. He enforces the rules properly without getting worked up or defensive when a player or coach does. He does not adopt the emotional level of the competitors. Besides being a good game management technique, it is exactly what an umpire is directed to do in the “general instructions” found in the rules.
@@MwD676 polite and courteous is not friendly. Players and coaches are not the umpire’s friend

@@teebob21 looked amazing with the sweat all over those guns 🤣🤣
Ahhh. much better.. ejections for arguing balls/strikes.. the axis is back.
Some are. We've had some good shows this season
I honestly don't get why the Nationals were whining. And I am someone who HATES what baseball has become, with the showboating and taunting. I just saw NONE of that in the game winning hit celebration. Nothing wrong with celebrating with your teammates after coming back form 0-2 and hitting a gamed winning hit with 2 outs. Nationals catcher should have been tossed the second he touched Profar. And when he touched him AGAIN after the brawl...how is that NOT an automatic..and possible suspension.
There’s a difference between tag attempt, and attempt to tag. The rulebook refers to this situation as a tag attempt, but what governs a runners line to the next base is an attempt to tag, not a tag attempt
As an Astro fan, this team really pissed me off during this game. Just straight garbage playing.
yap bregman in particular was awful
Wolf at least looks like he may have played some ball, most of the umpires look like they were recruited from coach potatoes are us.
His brother is Randy Wolf, former MLB pitcher, Jim would occasionally get rerouted to avoid doing his brother's games. I bet he has plenty of playing in his past.
@@stratbaseballman thanks for the info!
Lol, he almost yanked that pitch out of the top of the zone.
It’s a little harder without the trash cans, isn’t it, Astros?
very original, crazy Altuve still hit a homerun on the first pitch of the game
Astros won a WS without em. What’s so hard to remember
I’m sure you’re still whining about the Black Sox scandal of 1920 too
Savage…all the stars to you. Thank you for keeping this memory alive and well.
is that the ump making those noises or were those added LOL
" Wimbledon" wolf😊
It looked like a situation where Espada was arguing so that his player didn't get ejected. It's just unfortunate that you have to deal with coaches yelling at you even when you are doing a good job. There was really only one conclusive miss that I saw in the first inning. Everything else was spot on.
hahaha amazing call on him missing the ball because of pulling the pitch!
I’ve almost never seen that. I think he was trying to call it based on where Alvarez initially put it.
Is it just me or are manangers not getting their moneys worth this season?
🪙
It was clearly in the strike zone. And arguing balls and strikes with the umpire is never going to end well.
clearly is a bit of a reach
“Clearly” 😂 it’s an incredibly good call, right on the bottom of the zone. There’s nothing clear about that unless you have the data post game
Great analysis and video. Completely agree with you here the pitcher and manager have to go after that HBP. The umpires have to protect the players in the game by erroring on the side of it being intentional because at the end of the day they don't KNOW if it was intentional. But after the confrontation at the plate and subsequent warning, I don't think letting it go is the correct decision.
Cant stand umpires, makes baseball unwatchable. No one wants to see them.
I disagree with when you think the tag attempt occurred. J-Ram just getting the ball in glove with all momentum going the other way is a far cry from a tag attempt. This is a blown call.
The whole idea of the runner's momentum not being allowed to factor in is partly what bothers me about this and the previous "out of base path" call that was studied earlier this season. The runner was heading away from the bag/tag when the fielder finally gained possession of the ball; it's literally the only thing that physics will allow.
That’s a tough, tough call…..momentum carried him away, but I think the ump made the right call.
Good call
Wway more than 3ft and he was locked in the moment he got the ball.
Ejection 100 extravaganza
Totally agree with this assessment. Really appreciate the detailed explanation.
I love it when Rangers players get crunk...this is easily top 3 fight, after Nolan/Ventura, and Roughed Odor's punch heard round the world lol
Why can't any of you slow it down so we can see that clearly?
This is clearly obstruction, the fielder's foot is front of the base before the ball is in his glove. As usual, close call sides with the umpire and gets it wrong.
